Marguerite Stimpson
Actress
I'm currently in rehearsals for Robyne Parrish's play "Tin Church". I play the role of Mary, a woman who lives in New York but continues to be haunted by incidents that occurred in her childhood. I identify with the duality of being an adult woman, and the child you once were. My favorite scene in the play is when Mary inadvertently reveals a secret to her mother.
Have you always been a fan of theater? What was your first show? What is your favorite show?
I love theater. An early show I saw that had a big impact on me was The Glass Menagerie at the Stratford Festival in Stratford Ontario. I also recently loved The Ferryman on Broadway and will always love Angels in America.
What do you find challenging about this show? How do you like pushing yourself?
This show has many layers, and I believe that the challenge of this show is to keep exploring. I like to strive to find new things in a show every night, and i believe that this show will give me much to mine.
What is your favorite moment or line from the play?
"That little girl you knew is buried somewhere back in time, and you don't know where to find her, because everything is different now. All that is left is the scent of her."
Who are your collaborators? What do you like about working with them?
Robyne Parrish is our wonderful playwright and director. The cast is rounded out by the brilliant actors Christina Perry, Lilly Tobin, and Virginia Wall-Gruenert
TIN CHURCH also features scenic design by Marie Laster, sound design by Farid Vargas, lighting design by Juliette Louste, and original music by Adia Victoria. TIN CHURCH is produced by Hans H. Gruenert (Off the Wall Productions Pittsburgh), Erika Cuenca (Wall Stageworks LLC Pittsburgh), and Juliette Louste (ViVa Holding ehf Iceland). Casting is by JAMIBETH MARGOLIS casting. The stage manager is Amelia Hastings. From the moment I auditioned for this play, I have been struck by the respect and care that everyone has exhibited as we explore this play together.
What are you most proud of with this production? Or in your life?
I'm proud of the fact that this play is a play about women. I'm proud that I have the privilege to tell stories for a living and that the New York theater community has weathered both a pandemic and strikes, and yet continues to thrive.
