Adrienne Haan Honors Kurt Weill in One-Woman Musical Journey at The York Theatre

International chanteuse Adrienne Haan returns to New York this month with Adrienne Haan Sings Kurt Weill, an evening tracing the legendary composer’s journey from Berlin to Paris to Broadway. The performance, accompanied by her Novembergruppe Trio, will be presented Monday, September 22, 2025, at 7:30 PM in support of The York Theatre at The Theatre at St. Jean’s, home of The York Theatre.

The program celebrates the 125th birthday of Kurt Weill, spotlighting his Golden Twenties cabaret songs, his works from exile in 1930s Paris, and his Broadway triumphs of the 1940s. Haan, who conceived and co-directed the piece with Barry Kleinbort, weaves Weill’s story with her own, performing in multiple languages and styles ranging from chanson to musical theater to German Sprechgesang.

“This is my most challenging show,” says Haan, who performs 15 songs over the course of 100 minutes. “Weill’s music is complex, rangy, and requires not just vocal technique but strong acting skills. Every song is like stepping into a new character. My job is to take the audience on an exciting, emotional ride and keep them engaged from start to finish.”
The Huffington Post has hailed the performance as “a remarkable one-woman show and the talk of the town.”

Haan is accompanied by longtime collaborator Richard Danley, her music director of 22 years, on piano, along with Joe Graziosi on alto sax, clarinet, and flute, and Tal Ronen on bass. Together, the ensemble ensures that no two performances are ever alike.

“There is total trust on stage,” Haan notes. “My trio follows me wherever I go, and they bring their own improvisations and spirit to each performance.”

A German-Luxembourgish artist who sings in 14 languages and tours worldwide with her 14 different shows, Haan is entirely self-managed. She began performing professionally at 17 and has since built an international career without industry connections.

“Looking back, I am proud of what I’ve accomplished,” she reflects. “It’s been a hard journey, but also an exciting one. I was born to entertain.”

In addition to her global cabaret and concert work, Haan is returning to her theatrical roots, preparing classical monologues and developing new projects. She draws inspiration from time spent hiking in the mountains. “That’s when ideas find me,” she says.

Adrienne Haan Sings Kurt Weill takes place Monday, September 22, 2025, at 7:30 PM at The Theatre at St. Jean’s (150 E. 76th St, New York, NY). Tickets are available at OvationTix.
